<image:caption>Your finger might drop right into a little hollow there. Go ahead and massage, firmly, in a clockwise motion for about a minute. Then move to counterclockwise. You can do both legs at once or one at a time, but make sure to do both! See if you can notice energy shifting in your stomach area.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Earth is a water planet, offering a path that can be chiseled and alchemized into golden wisdom. This process brings to light the divinity in our humanity, the dream of life, the suffering of the mind, and not only the illusion of control, but the deepest need we have to relinquish it entirely.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Ghosts & Parasites: A Chinese Medicine Perspective - When we forgive, we free ourselves of all judgement and polarizing thoughts. Often, these thoughts are wrapped up in our sense of self and there is resistance in the face of release and the alchemizing of parasitic (invading) energies, even thought it’s what the heart truly wants.</image:title>
<image:caption>It requires blood, jing and qi, our most precious resources, to feed any toxicity in the body, and an enormous amount of energy to wrap it up in the numbing phlegm that puts that part of our story on hold until the desire to see the truth becomes greater than the fear of succumbing to invading thoughts.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Ghosts & Parasites: A Chinese Medicine Perspective - These imbalances, stripped down, always reflect the fear of life, the fear of death and the fear of love – all one in the same. We use phlegm as a way of protecting ourselves from reality when we do not yet remember who we are, and do not feell ready to fall, to trust, or to lose everything we’ve been holding onto. This is a sacred and non-linear process. In the realm of spiritual healing, emphasis is placed on bringing our awareness here, on observing, watching, and moving with the flow of the heart, towards what lights you up inside…and the rest follows. There are no wrongs, even in the realm of ghosts and parasites, only possibilities for an understanding that goes beyond beliefs or perspectives,, beyond high or low, dense or refined. This is about aligning to our divinity through the transparent, innocent and infinitely compassionate acceptance of WHO we are, how and why the soul is expressing itself through this life, this time period, this family dynamic and these experiences. We get out of our own way by getting to know our true nature, and trusting in this individuation process, even when we do not understand the unfolding of our divine destiny through the workings of the mind.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Poetry of the Body: Depression through the lens of Chinese Medical Psychology - In the deep cold and silence of winter, sadness, loneliness, grief and depression often take hold, asking us to open up to an understanding of ourselves that is more intimate and pure, to bear witness to what we’ve been experiencing during this most recent cycle of our lives with clarity and compassion.</image:title>
<image:caption>In the Chinese medicine tradition, winter represents the element of water, extreme yin, and the movement inward. During this phase, we are left with no choice but to face ourselves, a mirror held up reflecting our most exposed selves, our most tender emotions, our true face.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Acupuncture is a form of energy healing that can potentially bring you back into alignment with the natural world, and with the cosmos, which are one in the same if you look for long enough, and with your whole self. Sound is the language of God, used over the meridian systems in Chinese medicine to access deeper levels of their information. Different points along the kidney and urinary bladder meridians can help to support immunity, strengthen organ function, treat emotional imbalances related to the water element (fear, fatigue, lack of inspiration, sadness and depression), and clear any blockages held in the womb or heart.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A Time For Yin - On Wednesday, January 29th, we will celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome in the year of the Yin Wood Snake…</image:title>
<image:caption>…a time that encourages us to think deeply and plan strategically. This year is expected to be characterized by deep insights, thoughtful deliberation, and the development of inner strength. According to Dr. Phiona Gitsham, “the astrology of 2025 promises some big changes, too. 2025 has some very unique transits that really do justify it being associated with a large amount of changes to many aspects of our reality, personally and collectively. This is because ALL of the planets in our solar system change signs between Nov 2024 and July 2025. This event is so rare that many astrologers have gone back hundreds of years and not found another year like 2025. For all planets to change signs within this 9 month window is remarkable. The big picture forecast is sweeping changes and things we have never lived through before, due to technology also ushering our reality and consciousness into new realms and possibilities.” Exciting!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A Time For Yin - If we, as a collective, were sitting across from me at my clinic during an initial evaluation, I would ask pointed questions about the state of our body. How is sleep? Are there any digestive concerns? What are energy levels like? How is stress being managed? The answers to these questions would paint a picture of us as a whole, beautiful, working (but imperfect) body. The collective, as stated above, is miserably Yin Deficient. Our sleep would be disrupted, waking frequently, with hot flashes or night sweating. We would be very constipated having no moisture in our body to help “float the boat,” as it were. Our energy would be a little erratic, fidgety, fast-talking, and having a second wind at night when we should be winding down. We would not be dealing with stress, because we would have been burning the candle at both ends for quite some time. Our Yin is being consumed, rapidly and leading to Heat and Fire symptoms from within, burning up our fluids and leaving us dry.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - A Time For Yin - THE FIVE ANIMA AND THE ROOT OF ALL ILLNESS</image:title>
<image:caption>The root of all dis-ease, in TCM, is emotional imbalance. We are being driven by the patriarchy. Driven by greed. Taking whatever we want without any regard to the affect it has on the collective. Women’s rights are being stripped away and replaced with antiquated laws that are moving us backwards. Men are not being given the space to express their emotions in any kind of healthy way, leading to deep trauma wounds that manifest with anger, violence, indifference, and hate. The unhoused population continues to grow as unchecked capitalism and a lack of infrastructure and policy has lead to a greater divide between the rich and the poor. The common theme behind all of these things, is a dire need for mental health support and empathy for our communities.</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:title>Blog - A Time For Yin - WHAT CAN WE DO?</image:title>
<image:caption>We need more community. We need rest. We need so much rest. We need rain. We need more of the f e m i n i n e. Slow, methodical change that will lead to lasting results and a greater understanding of the whole. Our planet is sick. It needs our help. Uplifting and supporting feminine energy is a good start. Remember, Yin resides within men and women. While Yin is representative of the feminine, it doesn’t mean men cannot participate. Helping men to find their nurturing side is an absolute must. When shown love, love is returned. Men should be told that their feelings are valid. That it’s ok to cry. It’s ok to feel soft, pensive, and hurt. “Man up,” and “stop being such a wuss,” should have no place in our vernacular. Entitlement is not the same as empowerment. Showing no emotion is not the same as emotional stability. Being strong is not synonymous with being numb to feelings. How can you support these ideals in your circle? At home with your loved ones? At the office with your colleagues? Out in the world with your peers? How can you find ways to be kind? How can you remember to choose peace over violence? Does yelling need to be the first mode of communication? How can you search for deeper understanding? I always think of Ted Lasso: “Be curious. Not judgmental.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>In addition, you may see a reduction in systemic inflammation and in stress. By activating the parasympathetic system, cortisol (the stress hormone) drops drastically. While we need cortisol in small doses, most Americans are over-stimulated and over-stressed, which keeps our cortisol levels heightened. Consistently high cortisol levels can lead to inflammation (which can be safely called the root of all disease), weight gain, poor sleep, little to no appetite, and emotional imbalances.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I believe, in order to truly assist you in healing your body, I need to spend time with you - real time - eye contact and all. Chinese Medicine, at its core, is all about listening to the rhythm and flow of your own body. Our bodies are intuitive and will let us know if something is wrong; and, if we listen carefully, we can witness its innate ability to heal itself. I want to empower you to take control of your own healing and to tap into the incredible force that flows inside - your Qi (chee). Harness your Qi and you will attain all of your wellness goals. And I’ll be there to guide you and watch while you become your best, healthiest self. You can expect to receive this service at every single session we have together. Thank you for your trust. I promise to take good care of it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Pricing - “Traditional Chinese doctors are trained to cultivate wellness as well as to correct ill health. Planning ahead, Chinese medicine knows that storms interrupt clear weather, that illness stalks and gains a foothold when we are vulnerable. Its strategy is to enable us to withstand the storm without becoming disabled by it and to accumulate resources in times of good weather, peace, and plenty.”</image:title>

<image:title>About Rachel - Hey there, I’m Rachel. Owner, Acupuncturist, & Herbalist of Firewood Acupuncture</image:title>
<image:caption>My focus as an acupuncturist is being an advocate to you with your own health goals, making gentle suggestions, administering needles & proscribing herbal remedies, and most importantly, listening to your needs and wants. Having goals for your health is what I want to discuss with you, not just your symptoms. After all, your health is a journey, not a finish line. I grew up in the midwest. St. Louis to be exact. I had the quintessential childhood complete with pool parties, ice cream all summer long, soccer games in polyester jerseys in 90 degree heat, and family road trips. I was lucky enough to be a loved kid with a very supportive family. After a decade of living my first life as a contract wedding photographer in Chicago, I opened my own photography business and moved to Denver. It was there I found acupuncture and Chinese Medicine completely accidentally. I honestly couldn’t believe how quickly I fell in love with this medicine. So, after a hard left turn out of owning my first small business, I decided to go back to graduate school. What a scary transition. Starting completely over in my mid-30s was a tough decision - but, in all honesty - I was ready to dive head-first into something completely different. I have always found purpose in serving my community, I just never realized serving my community would lead me into a life of wearing many hats. While I have struggled with the non-linear path I have taken, I think I’ve finally come to realize that I’ve been creating a lattice of careers, not a ladder. Can you relate? I sure hope so.</image:caption>

<image:title>Cosmetic Acupuncture - Microneedling</image:title>
<image:caption>Microneedling is an advanced therapy utilizing a high-tech acupuncture pen filled with 10-12 tiny needles to puncture the skin at high RPMs to stimulate the body’s repair mechanism. Sometimes called Collagen Induction Therapy, this treatment increases collagen and elastin production up to 206%, increases absorption of products, like hyaluronic acid, into the skin by up to 10,000 times, and increases the formation of new capillaries to increase blood flow to the face. Even sensitive areas respond well to microneedling, like fine wrinkles under the eyes and large pores on the nose. So what are the perks? —> Increase collagen and elastin production —> Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles —> Improve blood flow to the face —> Safe for all skin types —> Minimally-invasive —> Can be used on the face, chest, belly, and scalp What does it treat? Microneedling has been proven to treat and reduce the appearance of: —> Fine lines and wrinkles —> Acne scars —> Hyperpigmentation and age spots —> Stretch marks —> Large pores —> Sagging skin —> Broken capillaries and spider veins —> Hair loss, like alopecia (male-pattern baldness)</image:caption>

<image:title>Acupuncture - Acupuncture is for everyone.</image:title>
<image:caption>Simply put, acupuncture, through the administering of sterilized, stainless steel needles, improves and balances the flow of “Qi” (chee), our life force in our bodies, increasing its self-healing ability; but, to take it a step further...Qi flows through specific meridians or channels in our bodies. These channels are associated with each one of our organs and, through each of its pathways, will connect with that specific organ. Any blockage (think of a traffic jam) that manifests along those channels will, over time, affect that specific organ, causing pain, weakness, or deficiency. Acupuncture aims to correct the flow of that stuck Qi so your channels are clear for the smooth flow of energy, restoring balance to your body. Acupuncture is incredibly safe. It’s all natural. It’s drug-free. It’s the original preventative medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine dates back over 3,000 years ago and is now practiced globally. Its efficacy has been proven in thousands of studies ranging from pain relief to reversing infertility and beyond. <image:title>B-12 Shots - Preservative-Free, Pure Methylcobalamin, B-12 Injections</image:title>
<image:caption>B-12 Injections are recommended if you’re having trouble absorbing the vitamin through your digestive tract. The body absorbs vitamin B12 from food in a two-step process. —> First, hydrochloric acid in the stomach separates vitamin B12 from the protein that it's attached to. —> Second, the freed vitamin B12 then combines with a protein made by the stomach, called intrinsic factor, and the body absorbs them together. The health benefits from injections can assist with mental clarity, energy, immune function, endurance, and more. Symptoms of B-12 Deficiency often include: fatigue anxiety and depression poor memory, confusion, brain fog numbness or tingling in the extremities zinging or zapping feelings in the extremities shortness of breath muscle weakness (especially calf tenderness) migraines restless legs nerve pain irritability</image:caption>

<image:title>Cupping - Relief in no time at all.</image:title>
<image:caption>Therapeutic cupping involves warming and placing cups, usually made of glass, on the skin. By warming the air within the cup, a vacuum is created, and when it is applied to the skin, the tissue is drawn up into the cup. Cups are left on the skin in a static state for just a few minutes, then dragged over the body, in sliding form for a more stimulating and muscle tension-relieving therapy. Cupping usually lasts anywhere from 5-20 minutes depending upon your specific needs. And it feels…..amazing. Benefits include: —> increases blood flow —> loosens fascia or connective tissue —> releases stuck emotions - often stored in our tissues —> stimulates healing —> quicker muscle recovery after high intensity activity This is very similar to a deep tissue massage, just in reverse. By creating more space between muscle, fascia, and bone, we can reduce pain and discomfort and create more range of motion. Old, stagnant blood is flushed out of the muscles and is replaced by fresh blood, which reduces pain and stagnation in the body. The “hickeys” left on the body look painful, but, in fact, they aren’t! Most people love the feeling of cupping as it very quickly releases tense muscles. If you are someone who loves those “hurt so good,” deep tissue massages, then you will LOVE cupping. Cupping can be booked as a single 30 minute therapeutic session or… We can work 10 minutes of cupping into your acupuncture session at no additional cost! And don’t worry - the hickeys left on your body will fade within 3-5 days, so let us know if you have a big event planned and need to show some skin!</image:caption>
